Peer Group Chat // Social Media // Thursday 29th September 2022, 7-8:30PM AEST

Our Peer Group Chat tonight on Thursday 29th September 2022 will be on the topic of Social Media.
amber22_1-1664423394918.gif

We can often want to keep up to date with friends as well as current news and events - but despite the positives, sometimes what we see on social media may be upsetting, overwhelming, or triggering. Join this conversation to talk together about how we can look after ourselves when managing our relationship with social media.

Within this group tonight we’ll be talking about:

  • Benefits and challenges associated with using social media
  • Strategies for how we can deal with difficulties we experience
  • How to improve our experiences with social media

For those unfamiliar to Peer Group Chats, each focuses on a specific topic and is guided by Peer Workers with lived experience of mental health issues and recovery. A counsellor is also present to assist in ensuring a safe environment for individuals and the group. It is a space for us as peers to share our stories and experiences, and connect with those who are going through something similar.

The event start times across Australia are below:

I'm down let's do this.

Re: Peer Group Chat // Social Media // Thursday 29th September 2022, 7-8:30PM AEST

Now that’s another thing I hope someone will explain to this confused new member some time!! Sounds interesting and nicely “connected.” - just what I’m hoping for.
I might not be ready for a further step just yet because of my limited Tech skills —- but it sounds like exactly the sort of involvement I was hoping for.
For the future:—
How do people find out about Peer Group Chats please?? @afterhours

Re: Peer Group Chat // Social Media // Thursday 29th September 2022, 7-8:30PM AEST

Hi @afterhours & welcome to the Forums 👋😊 I'm TideisTurning, one of the Peer Support Workers here. It's great to hear you're interested in our Peer Group Chat sessions. Also absolutely ok to take your time and engage how you feel comfortable. Peer Group Chats are generally run every Thursday evening from 7-8:30pm AEST/AEDT via a platform called Chatwee here. To join on the night, just follow that link and the prompts to sign up to participate or read along as a guest. The Chatwee FAQs may also come in handy for troubleshooting any issues that come up.

As far as being informed of future Peer Group Chats; we usually post reminders (such as the one above) in the Forum News & Feedback section of the Forums- if you 'support' these posts, we can tag you in reminders closer to the Peer Group Chat itself. You can also check out the Peer Group Chat page on the website for updates and other information.

Every Peer Group Chat is made available as a transcript afterwards and can be found here. You're also more than welcome to discuss or continue conversations about topics of interest here on Forums if that's something you'd like to do 😊. I hope that helps & you're able to join us for a Peer Group Chat at some stage!
