It's been a very quiet birthday. Just Hannah and I spending the day at home. 

Our town is flooded in, isolated from the world, with no way in or out for the last two days. We have had record rain, and a 1 in 500 year flood they say. The highest river level on record. Many homes and businesses under water and lost. Terribly sad. 

We have had helicopters flying overhead day and night for days now, performing rescues in the area. 

Many nearby areas have had to evacuate or move to higher ground. Thankfully I am on high ground and am in a watch and act zone. But like almost everyone in the town, we are told to isolate and stay at home. 

You cannot get staples such as milk, bread or eggs anywhere in town. Supplies can't be restocked as the only way in is by air.  Staff cant get to work to man hospitals, supermarkets or other essential services. 

Thankfully the rain has finally slowed this afternoon. Hopefully the water levels will start to subside soon. And roads reopen maybe by the end of the weekend. 

So it's been a memorable birthday. I had planned to take Hannah to one of the riverside cafes or restaurants for lunch. Good training for her. But sadly they are all under water. 

At least I had sufficient ingredients in my fridge, freezer and pantry to make something a bit special today. A nice beef stroganoff. And a glass of red wine.

I trust you have enough supplies to see you through.  Are the utilities still working?

Glad you're on high ground, and I hope you have good neighbours. Unfortunately 1 in 500 doesn't seem to mean much these days. "The time is out of joint" comes to mind. Prof. Google says it's from Hamlet.

Happy Birthday @Emelia8 - seems like you live near me. I'm not cut off yet, but do have to take detours to get anywhere and I have a leaky roof!

It's allegedly moving south so should clear from me tomorrow sometime, obviously flooding will continue.

It sounds like you've all had a very anxious time where you are @Emelia8 , I'm sorry to hear your birthday's been so fraught with weather related anxiety over the last few days.  John Lennon once said "Life is what happens when you were making other plans.". But the beef stroganoff sounds delicious, and I hope you and have enjoyed your time together.
