Hello

Hi I just joined the group I have difficultly sleeping due to intrusive negative thoughts and voices. I am hoping this group may help especially on the nights that are really bad. I hope this will be a better year.

Hi @Cat34 !

Welcome to the forum! It takes a lot of courage to post on forums, so well done for doing this 🙂

Struggling with intrusive thoughts can be really painful 😞 Do you have any support for managing those things, or do you have an strategies that you might have learned along the way to make them feel less intense?

Hoping this year is a better year for you and that you find great support on here.

Hi @Cat34

That sounds like something that is really difficult to deal with. Does distraction work at all? I find that if I go to bed when I am tired and if I meditate before bed, it is easier to sleep. It seems to help to reduce the negative thoughts. I hope this community can find a way to support you. Wishing you a more pleasant year.

Re: Hello

Hello @Cat34 and welcome.

Intrusive negative thoughts and voices can be hard to live with.

There's a particular thread Hearing voices and psychosis 🗯 and a peer support worker with lived experience @RiverSeal who may be able to offer suggestions.

Some mindfulness practices like guided meditations or yoga nidra might help quieten your mind before bed. Anxiety is a problem for me.

Re: Hello

HI cappuccino75,

Ideas for getting sleep with intrusive thoughts at night.

Calm music, yoga, and having warm milk.

Prepare yourself for sleep/bed about an hour beforehand.

Distract the thoughts.

If unable to sleep for 20 minutes, get up and do relaxation techniques that you find relaxing to do.

Reach out to someone who understands what you may be going through.

Watching TV or programs that you enjoy may help.

Try not to worry about not sleeping, as it can prevent

you from falling asleep sooner.

Letting go and releasing on a separate piece of paper the thoughts in the third person is ok.

Re: Hello

Thanks, Lapis. I'm sure this community can support me, as I was told that it was really good, and I'm grateful that my worker told me about it.
