Patience, most defintely, love and the willingness to learn and understand.

My fiance is the only one who has stuck with me through mania and depression. I have had many people who say 'I totally understand,' but unless you have bpd you can never understand. However, the willingness to want to try to understand is worth so much. I would rather someone say 'I don't understand but I want to,' than 'I totally understand.'
